If you're sensing trouble in your marriage, you should probably turn off the TV.

And, no, not so you have more time to take your loved on out for a romantic dinner or something to that effect.

You should shut off the boob tube because television might be giving you an unrealistic expectation of what a healthy relationship is like.

Researchers from Albion college surveyed 390 married couples on the state of their relationship and also on their impressions of how romance is portrayed on television.

The more a person believed that the idealized love that is often featured on TV is real, the less satisfied they were with their own spouse.

“In this study I found that people who believe the unrealistic portrayals on TV are actually less committed to their spouses and think their alternatives to their spouse are relatively attractive,” Dr. Jeremy Osborn, who authored the study with ran in the journal Mass Communication and Society, explained.

"My hope would be that people would read this article and take a look at their own relationships and the relationships of those around them," he continued. "How realistic are your expectations for your partner and where did those expectations come from?”
