Your Smartphone or Tablet Adds Two Hours to Your Work Day
When you buy a new smartphone or tablet, you may not realize that perhaps the biggest effect it will have on your life is that you will work more.
A study by technology retailer Pixmania found that the average worker spends up to two hours a day checking and responding to work business on his email-enabled device when he is away from the office and not on the clock.
About two-thirds of workers say they check their work emails right before they go to sleep and then again first thing in the morning. One-third admit they have woken up in the middle of the night and replied to a work-related message.
A previous study had found that 50 percent of employees check their work emails when on vacation.
"The more constantly in contact we become, the more is expected of us in a work capacity," sums up Ghadi Hobeika, marketing director of Pixmania. So is this new technology worth it?
