Rock supergroups have always been notorious for flaming out quickly, so when we found out Sammy Hagar was teaming up with Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Chad Smith to form Chickenfoot, we knew only time would tell if they stood the test of time.

But in spite of the scheduling difficulties (and, no doubt, ego-juggling) that comes with a collaboration this size, the band has managed to defy the odds by finishing work on its second CD.

According to a Facebook post from bassist Anthony, "mixing on the new Chickenfoot CD is done" -- and he promises that "it's a lot heavier than the first record."

He went on to say that fans can expect to hear something from the album, titled 'Chickenfoot IV,' before too long: "The first single should hit the airwaves sometime this summer with the full enchilada to follow in the fall."

Touring plans will likely be complicated by Smith's "other" band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who are scheduled to release their tenth studio album, I'm With You, in late August.
