When he traveled to the year 2015 in 'Back to the Future Part II,' Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, saw plenty of amazing things, and a sizable portion of them -- including hoverboards, flying cars, and, thankfully, 'Jaws Part 19' -- haven't come to pass.

But thanks to the hardworking scientists in the Nike labs, we now have the glowing, self-lacing sneakers that Marty wore in the future -- and they're being auctioned off to benefit Parkinson's disease research. UK rapper Tinie Tempah got his hands on the first pair, which set him back the eye-popping sum of $37,500.

Yes, that's more than a lot of people make in a year, and yes, they are only sneakers -- but again, this is for charity, and besides, Tempah also received a commemorative "plutonium case" for his investment. (What, you thought he was going to wear them?)

A total of 1,500 pairs of the limited edition sneakers, christened Nike MAGs, will remain on auction until September 18. Now, about those hoverboards...
