Taco Bell has been fighting in the fast food trenches for years, pimping out franchised fare using everything from smooth-talking chihuahuas, five buck boxes to the insanely popular chupacabra of tacos known as the Doritos Locos Tacos.

Well, it looks like it's git the jackpot.

Since feeding the crazy idea of a Doritos taco to the general public for the fist time in March, Taco Bell says that it has sold more than 200 million of them, making this unusual brand of crunchy taco the most successful avenue for getting people to run for the border the restaurant has experienced in 50 years of business.

In fact, the success of the Doritos Loco Taco may be responsible for a 13 percent increase in sales – the largest increase among the parent company’s three major US brands, which also includes KFC and Pizza Hut.

Taco Bell doesn’t plan to stop there. The company currently has a team of fast food masterminds working on breeding the next generation of taco cuisine and Doritos corn chips, which could likely include flavors like Flamas and Cool Ranch.

There are no details about when Taco Bell plans to unleash a new flavor for their mega-selling Dorito brand tacos, but there is some speculation that when they do it will be the Cool Ranch flavor.

So, while other fast food establishments only claim to think outside of the box, it appears as if Taco Bell is gaining some much needed speed in the industry by actually doing it.

Only time will tell if consumers indeed have another special place in their stomachs for additional culinary oddities.
