On the cover of Glamour's September issue, Rihanna rocks a backless Dolce and Gabbana top, sequined pants and her currently fire engine red hair.

In the issue, the singer opens up about life as a role model for girls and about being friends with fellow pop star Katy Perry.

Since Rihanna first came onto the music scene, she has transformed herself from a Beyonce lookalike to a Caribbean Jessica Rabbit.

As Glamour magazine's September cover girl, shot by Ellen von Unwerth, the pop star discussed the rules her record label made her follow when she was first starting out. She said, "In the beginning of my career, it was really strict for me. I couldn't wear pink or red lipstick; it was just bizarre. We had a young fan base, and they were trying to keep me fresh. But I just really wanted to be myself. I wanted to be sassy, the attitude, all these things that I am."

Rihanna also talked about being BFFs with Katy Perry.

"All my friends are guys, to be completely honest. But when I met her, it was such a breath of fresh air. I just couldn’t believe this chick had no edit button. . . . Katy and Lady Gaga came out of the gate exactly the way they think, the way they wanna dress, the way they wanna speak."

The September issue of Glamour magazine goes on sale August 9.
