Maria Sharapova to Make Drastic Career Move
About the only person who doesn’t want to be Maria Sharapova is Maria Sharapova.
The tennis star and endorsement machine, who is the world's richest female athlete, is planning to change her name to Maria Sugarpova for two weeks during the US Open to help promote her new candy company.
Sharapova has reportedly contacted the Florida Supreme Court about getting the new temporary moniker. She would then revert back to her given name of Sharapova once the US open ends.
It could be worse – she could take to calling herself Maria Ochopova.
UPDATE: Sharapova's agent has confirmed his client will not change her name, due to logistical complications.
