The New Orleans Hornets, a franchise born in Charlotte, are undergoing another big change, and this might be the worst one of all.

It was announced Thursday that the New Orleans Hornets will be changing their name after the 2012/2013 season. They will now be known as the New Orleans Pelicans. Wait -- the Pelicans?

The Hornets name has been around since 1988. So, will fans be happy with the name of Pelicans? Perhaps the franchise is just trying to establish its own identity after years of being tossed around by ownership.

This isn't the first time an NBA team has changed names. Most recently, the Seattle SuperSonics became the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008 and the Washington Wizards were known as the Bullets until 1997.
