‘iPosture’ May Explain Why Tablets and Phones Cause Crippling Back Pain
Mobile devices are supposed to make life easier, but they may actually be making it more painful.
According to a new survey, 84% of people between the ages of 18 and 24 report coping with back pain in the last year due to using iPads and smartphones. The phenomenon is growing so quickly that doctors have created a term for it: iPosture.
The problem has become so great that more folks in that age group call out sick from work due to back pain than their parents do.
The 18-24 set routinely sits in front of a screen for 8.83 hours each day – and that’s not including a TV screen -- with 66% claiming they slouch when they do so.
Those over the age of 55 typically spend 6.64 hours in front of a screen every day.
