Baby Born at NASCAR Track, Receives Free Tickets for Life
In a desperate situation where a man is faced with the decision to either seek out immediate medical attention or watch his pregnant girlfriend give birth in the backseat of his car, the only available option is to -- you guessed it -- pull into a NASCAR Speedway.
That is exactly what happened to Shawna Arnold, who went into labor last Friday evening. Before her boyfriend could get her to a hospital, the baby decided to make an early appearance.
"He's like, ‘I can't drive any faster, I can't drive any faster,' and I'm like, ‘I'm not going to make it, I'm not going to make it,'" said Shawna Arnold. "And I had a contraction, and I stood up in the back seat on my knees facing the back, and I said, ‘I'm not going to make it. My water just broke.'"
That was all it took to set Arnold’s boyfriend into panic mode, causing him to pull into the front parking lot of the New Hampshire Motor Speedway and beg the ticket office for some help.
EMT’s staffed for the evening’s event quickly came to the rescue, helping to deliver the couple’s new daughter inside their car before rushing them to the hospital in one of the speedway’s ambulances.
We are happy to report that not only are the new mom and baby Katie doing just fine, but to help commemorate the experience, the track has given them two tickets to attend their NASCAR races every year for the rest of their lives.
Here's hoping Katie grows up to be a NASCAR fan.
