Should Athletes Be Banned for a Failed Drug Test? — Sports Survey of the Day
Professional sports has been dealing with steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs for years. Would they still be dealing with it if there was a more severe penalty for being caught?Melky Cabrera is just the latest person to get busted for doping. He certainly won't be the last, either. The biggest problem with Melky is the apparent cover-up he tried to pull in order to get out of the suspension. Despite a positive test, and a big time cover-up operation, Cabrera is still only facing a 50-game suspension.
Perhaps if things were treated more like the Pete Rose situation, players may think twice before juicing up. Rose remains banned from the sport for gambling. You never hear anything about players doing that. Perhaps facing a permanent ban would get the sport back to the way it was.
