The top 20 'American Idol' hopefuls for season 12 have been chosen and will compete for America's votes next week, with 10 male contestants battling it out for the final five spots on Thursday night.

The following men are staying.

Vincent Powell: He's a belter with a bluesy, soulful falsetto and had several moments while singing 'Cause I Love You.' The judges love moments and he had about 20 of them in one song.

Nick Boddington: His voice during 'Say Something Now' was buttery and pretty enough to earn him a push through to the next phase.

Lazaro Arbos: He has a speech impediment, but his version of 'Tonight I Wanna Cry' had depth and emotion.

Burnell Taylor: The teen's rendition of 'This Time' by John Legend was unique, thanks to his vocal cadences and his motions while singing. He has become an odds-on favorite.

Cortez Shaw: He delivered a tough ballad, turning David Guetta's EDM smash 'Titanium' into a slow, emotional song. It wasn't flawless, but it had guts. Lots of 'em.

The following dudes were bounced.

Mathenee Treco: He tried out last year, too. He performed like he loves his job, but it didn't stack up to the other competitors.

Gurpreet Singh Sarin: The Sikh singer has a dreamy voice, but his terrible song choice of 'Nothing Ever Hurt Like You' 86ed him and sent him back to Maryland. Boo!

Josh Holliday: He sang an original song -- always a risky move -- while playing the piano. Unfortunately for him, his voice was too controlled, likely a byproduct of the fact that he is a vocal coach.

David Oliver Willis: He grabbed the acoustic guitar to sing 'Fever' and fell short, at least in the judge's minds, since they were the ones pulling the trigger during these sudden death rounds.

Bryant Taseo: The Hawaiian's heartfelt rendition of 'New York State of Mind' nearly brought him to tears. Three-fourths of the judges loved it, but he still went buh-bye.
