Will Men Soon Outlive Women?

Women living longer than men is a fact that has always been a card females can play in any battle of the sexes.

But it looks like their long time longevity advantage may soon be a thing of the past.

According to new study from Great Britain’s Office for National Statistics, a boy born in the year 2000 that reaches the age of 30 is expected to live to  87 — the same age a female classmate is supposed to reach.

Experts attributed this closing of the longevity gap to men smoking less and taking on less dangerous jobs than they had in the past.

‘There has been a huge decline in the numbers working in heavy industry; far fewer males smoke than before and there is much better treatment for heart disease, which tends to affect more males than females,” Leslie Mayhew, a statistician at City University, London, explained.
