What Are the Most Stolen Cars in the US? [VIDEO]

Flashy sports cars may be objects of envy, but when it comes to the most stolen vehicles in America, they can’t hold a candle to plain old sedans.

In a report issued by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), the 1994 Honda Accord topped the list as the most swiped car last year, with the 1998 Honda Civic a close runner-up.

The anti-theft systems installed in cars made more recently have deterred criminals somewhat — those thefts are at their lowest rate since 1967 — but the thieves are getting more and more savvy. Some are even in cahoots with locksmiths that will make replacement keys or exploit key codes.

Newer and more expensive stolen autos are typically sold intact with laundered titles, while older model vehicles tend to be stripped of their parts and sold piecemeal — proving that sometimes the value of one’s parts really is greater than the whole.
