Were the NCAA Sanctions Too Much for Penn State? — Sports Survey of the Day

The scandal at Penn State is one of the worst in the history of sports. The NCAA handed down its punishment on Monday, but was it too harsh? When it was discovered that Penn State as a whole was covering up the crimes of Jerry Sandusky since 1998, people were outraged. The NCAA had to make a quick decision whether or not it needed to take action, and action it took. The punishment it gave to Penn State will set the football program, and the university, back quite a bit.

The penalties include a four-year bowl ban, a reduction in scholarships and vacating all wins from 1998-2012. Each of those is a huge blow to a school that was held to the highest of standards. People had mixed feelings when it came to the punishment. Some thought it was unfair to the current students and athletes, who had nothing to do with the scandal. Others felt it was completely justified.
