Weekend Box Office — ‘The Hunger Games’ Continues to Eat Up the Competition


‘The Hunger Games’ once again treated the competition like dots in a Pac-Man game, swallowing them all without a trace. It earned $61.1 million and took the top spot at the weekend box office for the second week in a row.

‘Wrath of the Titans’ debuted  with $34.2 million for second place, followed by the Julia Roberts comedy ‘Mirror Mirror,’ which took in $19 million for third.

Meanwhile, the Jonah Hill/Channing Tatum collaboration, ’21 Jump Street,’ sold $15 million in tickets for a fourth-place showing, and ‘Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax’ rounded out the top five with $8 million in weekend revenues.

Here’s a list of the top 10 movies at the box office Friday through Sunday with estimated grosses, along with how much each movie has made since its release:

1. ‘The Hunger Games’ — $61.1 million, $251 million total
2. ‘Wrath of the Titans’ — $34.2 million, new release
3. ‘Mirror Mirror’ — $19 million, new release
4. ’21 Jump Street’ — $15 million, $93 million total
5. ‘Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax’ — $8 million, $189.5 million total
6. ‘John Carter’ — $2 million, $66.2 million total
7. ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’ — $1.2 million, $3.1 million total
8. ‘Act of Valor’ — $1 million, $67.7 million total
9. ‘A Thousand Words’ — $915,000, $16.5 million total
10. ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ — $835,000, $98.4 million total
