After LSU 's convincing defeat of Georgia in the SEC Championship on Saturday, the Tigers were selected to play Alabama in the the BCS national championship game on January 9 in New Orleans.

The game is a rematch of the Nov. 5 contest that LSU won in overtime. The atmosphere at the Superdome figures to be dominated by rabid LSU fans making the intra-state trip from Baton Rouge.

LSU has long been a football haven, as our Sports Movie of the Week selection 'Everybody's All-American,' demonstrates. The 1988 film stars Dennis Quaid as Gavin Grey, a fictional two-way football player attending LSU in the mid-1950s who leads a charmed life as a star athlete and campus hero. Grey marries Babs Rogers (Jessica Lange) and eventually enters the NFL, where he begins to experience career setbacks that bleed into his personal life. John Goodman and Timothy Hutton co-star in the movie based on a novel by sports writer Frank Deford.

Five Reasons to Watch 'Everybody's All-American'

1. The college football scenes were shot at Tiger Stadium during halftime of actual LSU games in 1987.

2.  Awesome throwback jerseys of the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos are used when Grey turns pro.

3. Dennis Quaid had his collarbone broken by  NFL defensive back Tim Fox, then of the New England Patriots, during the movie shoot.

4. John Goodman is an actor who looks like he could have played football in the 1950s.

5. Author Frank Deford based the Gavin Grey character on several athletes whom he covered during his career.
