Topical references to pop culture can be a great way to advertise, but an Atlanta restaurant has learned that joking about the beating Rihanna took at the hands of Chris Brown isn't really the best way to do it.

The former (and some say current) couple were infamously involved in an altercation that left Rihanna bloodied and bruised a while back. And although the Barbados-born beauty has since forgiven Brown and even collaborated with him on a couple songs, jokes about the incident are still considered to be in poor taste.

But the Chops and Hops restaurant obviously didn't get the memo. It debuted a "Black And Bleu" sandwich along with this Facebook description:

@chrisbrown, @rihanna and us teamed up for a award winning celebrity sandwich. Put your hands on this caribbean black and bleu sandwich. Caribbean spiced marinated sliced ribeye blackened then look out for the bleu cheese, sliced tomato, silver Lamborghini onions, and shredded romaine. Chris Brown won’t beat you up for eating this unless your name starts with a R and ends with A.

Atrocious grammar and sentence-structure aside, people were outraged. The eatery is known for its celeb-inspired sandwiches, which have mocked Paula Deen's diabetes and Britney Spears' infamous flashing of her lady bits while getting out of a car.

The owners pulled the sandwich from the menu, but left the Facebook thread discussion open, in addition to issuing a separate statement in which they apologized and promised to donate six times the amount earned from the sales of the sandwich to a non-profit that fights domestic violence.
