Rafael Nadal beat world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, on Monday to win the championship of the rain-delayed French Open. The victory gave Nadal a record-setting seventh French Open men’s singles title, allowing him to pass Bjorn Borg for most titles won on the red clay of Roland Garros.

Nadal was ahead two sets to one, but he trailed Djokovic 2-1 in the fourth set when play was halted by rain on Sunday. The two tennis titans resumed the match Monday morning, when Nadal asserted his dominance and broke Djokovic’s serve in the first game. The fourth set was even at 5-5, when Djokovic made several errors, including a double fault on match point.

Nadal now has an incredible 52-1 lifetime record at the French Open. His only setback was a loss to Robin Soderling in 2009.
