Last month, Radiohead drummer Phil Selway told reporters that the band’s surprise set at this year’s Glastonbury festival had reawakened their enthusiasm for performing live. It looks like he really meant what he said.

In fact, according to singer Thom Yorke, fans can expect a full-fledged tour next year, as well as a new album from his side project, Atoms for Peace.

Yorke spilled the beans during his recent appearance on Gilles Peterson’s BBC Radio 1 show, where he dropped by for a couple of hours to chat and spin tracks by a variety of bands (including Radiohead, natch). It sounds like the band will be targeting specific markets with short runs rather than spending the entire year on the road. As Yorke put it, “The idea is to go out and play next year on and off during the year.”

Meanwhile, Atoms for Peace, the collective featuring Yorke, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, are close to finishing their first album. Yorke didn’t have any specific release date handy, but between that project, the 2012 tour, and Radiohead’s upcoming appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ it looks like the next year or so will be full of excitement for fans.
