A study involving 45,000 iPhone users who recorded their level of happiness at least five times a day yielded some not entirely surprising results.

According to London School of Economics researcher George MacKerron, who developed the "Mappiness" app, people are happiest after having sex, followed by exercising, going to a movie or a concert and then singing or performing.

As for what makes people unhappy, being in bed sick tops the list. Next comes waiting in line, caring for adults, commuting, and work or study.

MacKarron was able to use the over three million total responses to isolate the happiest time of the year -- Christmas day at 1:50 pm. January 31 at 8 p.m. is when humanity is feeling the least content.
