In an almost three-hour set comprised of almost 40 songs –during which he never took a break or even a sip of water – former Beatle and musical living legend Sir Paul McCartney showed the newer generation of stars exactly how it’s done.

This weekend, McCartney, 69, played two concerts at New York’s Yankee Stadium to rave reviews, and even welcomed hometown boy Billy Joel to back him up on piano during ‘I Saw Her Standing There.’

Drawing from a career spanning nearly 50 years with The Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist, McCartney wowed audiences with anecdotes and energetic renditions of hits such as ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,’ ‘Jet,’ ‘Live and Let Die,’ and the sing-along anthem ‘Hey Jude.’

There were poignant moments too  – he played ‘Something’ on a ukelele given to him by George Harrison and ‘Here Today’ in honor of John Lennon.

But the overall tone was one of triumph. “Who is this Derek Jeter guy?” McCartney asked the crowd during the show. “Somebody said he’s got more hits than me.”
