Ozzie Guillen’s reign as Chicago White Sox manager has reportedly ended amidst the kind of drama you’d expect from the controversial skipper.

Late Monday night, reports indicated that Guillen had been traded to the Florida Marlins, but by morning the story had changed. Guillen was released from his contract and he will pursue other managerial opportunities on his own.

White Sox general manager Ken Williams did say that the team had agreed on compensation with an undisclosed team, but that Guillen was a free agent. Sources speculate that he’ll be offered a four-year deal with Florida. Marlins manager Jack McKeon announced he was retiring earlier in the day.

Guillen went 678-617 in his eight seasons in Chicago, winning a World Series in 2005, his second season there. Guillen previously served as third-base coach on Florida’s 2003 World Series champion team.

“I have no regrets,” he said. “Disappointed? Yes, because of the way we played this season.”
