With the 10-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks days away, preparations are underway in New York City to commemorate the tragic event.

President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush will attend the Sept. 11 observance at the World Trade Center, although no political speeches will be made.

The World Trade Center observance has traditionally involved the reading of the names of the 2,753 people killed in Manhattan and four moments of silence -- one for when each tower was struck and two more marking the time when each tower fell. This year, for the 10th anniversary of the tragedy, organizers said the names of those who died at Shanksville, Pa., and the Pentagon will also be read, and two additional moments of silence will be added in honor of those victims, USA Today reported.

The September 11 Memorial will also be dedicated during Sunday's observance. The memorial is set to open on September 12.

The New York Police Department said it will deploy thousands of extra officers to patrol Sunday as a precaution, despite no specific threats.
