A new survey suggests that more teenagers today are smoking pot rather than cigarettes.

According to a recent report by the Center for Disease Control, 23 percent of high school-aged kids said that they had recently partaken in marijuana, while 18 percent of those surveyed said they had smoked cigarettes.

In the past, the CDC report detailing risky behavior in teens has shown that the amount of teens that smoke is actually in decline. However, while the use of marijuana has varied throughout the years, it is currently escalating.

In fact, last year marked the first time in which marijuana use was evidently more abundant than it had been in decades past.

A previous analysis by the University of Michigan also conveyed that marijuana use in teens was elevated, which according to study experts may be because teens today view smoking port as less dangerous than cigarettes.
