It’s no longer just women who are starving themselves to be thin.

Experts believe that the media’s increased glamorization of chiseled male bodies and six-pack abs are leading more and more men to suffer from eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia.

A recent study in England revealed a 66 percent increase in hospital admissions for male eating disorders over the past decade. A few years ago, a poll of Americans found that 25 percent of those with anorexia or bulimia were male.

Health officials worry that doctors are slow to identify the signs of eating disorders in men, instead attributing extreme male weight loss to depression or other factors.

To make matters even trickier, men are often reluctant to own up to having an eating disorder, because they are embarrassed to admit they suffer an affliction that is associated with women.
