Jim Thome Becomes the 8th Player Ever to Hit 600 Home Runs

The Minnesota Twins’ Jim Thome hit his 600th career home run on Monday night, making him just the eighth player in Major League Baseball history to reach that mark.

The 40-year-old slugged his 599th and 600th dingers in consecutive innings of the Twins’ 9-5 win against the Detroit Tigers.

Whether this assures Thome Hall of Fame induction when he retires is anyone’s guess, but the case is most certainly more compelling now that he’s joined elite company like Ruth, Aaron, and Mays. The fact that he’s never been implicated in the steroids-era rumor-mongering only strengthens his case.
