How Do You Watch Movies? — Survey of the Day

It is assumed that streaming video will eventually be the death knell of the DVD and Blu-ray industries. But could the easy-to-use technology also be cutting into movie box office profits?

According to a survey of 15,277 subscribers, streaming video is now the most common way of viewing a movie, with 52 percent having streamed a film in the past month. Next up is watching a movie in a theater (47 percent), then renting a DVD or Blu-ray (43 percent) and lastly using a cable on-demand service for movie watching (32 percent in the past month.)

While this would seem to be a great news for streaming movie king Netflix, rival services Vudu, Apple iTunes, and Amazon Instant Video all scored higher than Netflix terms of customer satisfactions in the same survey.
