Georgia Teachers Go Way Above and Beyond By the Call of Duty By Offering Free Tutoring This Summer [VIDEO]

CBS Atlanta

Even after an $89 million budget cut forced the Gwinnett County school system in Georgia to cut 600 jobs, some teachers there are so dedicated that they’re now volunteering their time to tutor kids for free.

Every Wednesday this summer between 8 a.m. and noon, teachers from the Benefield Elementary School in Lawrenceville, GA are gathering at the school library to offer free reading help to anyone who needs it.

So far, about 100 families have shown up for each session.

Karon Stocks, a teacher at the school who spearheaded the effort, said, “We have about 40 to 45 teachers … I think it’s really important that the (kids) not just be on the computer or watching TV.”
