The great beast of worldwide commerce has finally put its filthy hooves on the necks of the occult merchant and slobber jawed the wicked and the mystic right out of business.

The online marketplace eBay announced in its 2012 Fall Seller Update that it is banning the sales of all supernatural goods and services including “advice, spells, curses, hexing, conjuring, magic services, prayers, blessings, Psychic, Tarot, Reki, and other metaphysical readings and services, magic potions, healing sessions.”

eBay spokesperson Johnna Hoof says the decision to eliminate the sale of these types of “metaphysical” products was based on complaints from buyers and sellers that transactions involving these products “often result in issues that can be difficult to resolve.”

While the novelty of buying and selling things that technically do not exist on eBay is coming to an end, Hoff says that things that have a tangible value that often get classified in the metaphysical rites and practices category, such as jewelry, crystals, incense, candles, and books, will still be allowed in most cases.

The ban goes into effect on August 30.
