Common Debuts New Single, ‘Blue Sky’ [AUDIO]
Common is back.
The Grammy-winning rapper dropped a new single this week with his latest track, ‘Blue Sky.’
Common debuted the single during a visit to DJ Reflex’s show on L.A.’s Power 106, during which the duo discussed his upcoming ninth studio album, ‘The Dreamer, The Believer.’
“It’s that good hip-hop, that good music,” Common told DJ Reflex of the new track, which finds him delivering uplifting rhymes over a musical bed that includes samples of the Electric Light Orchestra hit ‘Mr. Blue Sky.’
Like the rest of the album, ‘Blue Sky’ serves as a reunion with producer No I.D., who manned the board for early Common favorites such as ‘I Used to Love H.E.R.’
According to Common, ‘The Dreamer, The Believer’ was inspired by the hip-hop artists he loved when he was younger. As he described it to HipHopDX, “It’s the spirit and energy of hip-hop that made you just enjoy it and love the music and not feel like, ‘Man, is this gonna sell?’ or ‘I sold this many.’ It’s stuff that made you feel something, it’s stuff that you can use that inspired your life. I think about hip-hop like Brand Nubian and KRS-One and N.W.A. and Rakim, that stuff inspired my life. Those things really shaped who I am.”
Originally planned for an April release, ‘The Dreamer, The Believer’ is now scheduled to reach stores on November 22.
