Casey Anthony, the young mother who was recently acquitted of killing her young daughter, was released from the Orange County Jail in Florida late last night as news cameras and a crowd of about 1,000 people looked on. Two armed officers escorted Anthony and her attorneys as they left the building.

Dressed in a pink shirt and jeans, she got into a waiting SUV and was followed by news helicopters to the parking garage of one of her lawyers. She was not seen again, but some news sources speculate she was later whisked to a private jet.

Her ultimate destination has been kept a secret as a security measure against public outrage about her not-guilty verdict. Some spectators shouted "Killer!" at her as she left the jail, and an "I Hate Casey Anthony" Facebook group has currently been "liked" by more than 50,000 people.

Anthony was arrested three years ago in connection with the murder of her then two-year-old daughter Caylee, whose disappearance was not reported for nearly a month. During the trial, she claimed Caylee had accidentally drowned in the family swimming pool and that her father, a former police officer, had helped cover it up.

While she was acquitted of the killing, she was found guilty of lying to police during the investigation and was sentenced to four years for the lesser crime. Given time served and good behavior, she was released from jail just 12 days after being sentenced.
