Anthony Weiner Resigns from Office [VIDEO]
Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned from office Thursday, apologizing for the "damage" he caused after it was revealed that he had engaged in explicit internet relationships with at least six women over the span of three years.
"Today I am announcing my resignation ... so my colleagues can get back to work, my neighbors can choose a new representative, and most importantly, that my wife and I can continue to heal from the damage that I've caused," he said in a press conference.
“I’m here to apologize for the personal mistakes I have made and the embarrassment that I have caused,” he said.
Weiner added that he had hoped to continue serving his constituents, but admitted “the distraction I created has made that impossible.”
Weiner made his announcement at a retirement home in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn - an ironic twist, as it is the same place where he launched his political campaign in 1991.
