When you think of romantic American cities, maybe you think of the lights of New York City, the scenic fog of San Francisco, or the jazz clubs of Chicago.

But how about Knoxville, TN? A new poll from Amazon says it's the most romantic city in the United States.

The survey had a rather unconventional set of criteria -- cities were ranked based on sales of romance novels, relationship books, romantic comedy movies, Barry White albums and sexual wellness products since the start of 2012.

The home of the University of Tennessee Volunteers took the top honors, knocking Alexandria, VA off the top perch its held for the past two years. Who else made the top five? Say "hubba hubba" to Springfield, MO, Orlando, FL and Cincinnati, OH.

With four cities in the top 20, Florida is considered the most romantic state. Miami did well at least in part due to strong sales of sexual wellness products.

Here's the rest of the Top 20:

  • Vancouver, WA
  • Miami, FL
  • Murfreesboro, TN
  • Dayton, OH
  • Columbia, SC
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Clearwater, FL
  • St. Louis, MO
  • Erie, PA
  • Clarksville, TN
  • Everett, WA
  • Gainesville, FL
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Rochester, NY
  • Tallahassee, FL

And what were the least romantic cities? New York City took the honors, followed by Winston-Salem, NC; Paterson, NJ; and El Monte, CA. (Although with the ranking criteria, they might want to call that a win.)
