Last year, the 17 largest airlines in the US made $3.3 billion in baggage-related fees, and now American Airlines would like a little bigger slice of the pie.

It's just announced a new luggage service that might make your life a little easier -- but of course it'll cost you.

American is partnering with BAGS VIP Luggage Delivery to introduce the new service, which will deliver your bags to a home, office or hotel within 40 miles of an airport, allowing you to get on with your trip instead waiting around for your suitcase to show up on the baggage carousel.

The cost? $29.95 for one bag, $39.95 for two bags and $49.95 for three to 10 bags -- but keep in mind that's on top of any check fees the airline might charge.

"[This] shows our commitment to provide more options to help our customers have a hassle-free trip,” said David Vance, American’s managing director of customer operations planning. “We think this service will be especially valuable to families traveling with children as well as our business travelers who need to go straight to a meeting or into the office.”
