Longtime ’60 Minutes’ commentator Andy Rooney has been hospitalized after developing serious complications following surgery.

While CBS reported the 92-year old’s condition was stable, Rooney’s family has requested that no other details concerning the surgery be released.

Rooney retired from ’60 Minutes’ — where his ‘A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney’ segment had run since 1978 –just three weeks ago. The three-time Emmy winner was known for his expressing his often curmudgeonly take on the absurdities of life.

Rooney’s journalism career began in 1942 when he began writing for the military paper ‘Stars and Strips’ after being drafted into the army.

Marguerite, Rooney’s wife of 62-years, died in 2004. He has four adult children.
