Serena Williams defeated Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, on Saturday to capture her fifth Wimbledon title at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The decisive victory was the 14th major championship for Williams and prevented Radwanska from winning a championship in her first appearance in a Grand Slam final.

Williams quickly won the first set, consistently blasting a hard serve at third-seeded Radwanska, who was ailing with a respiratory issue throughout the match. After breaking Williams to tie the second set at 4-4, Radwanska broke her again to even the match. Williams broke Radwanska twice in the third set to secure the victory.

Had she won, Radwanska would have been the first Polish woman or man to win a Grand Slam final, and she would have become the WTA’s top-ranked female. Instead, Williams, 30, won her fifth singles title at the tournament to equal her sister Venus’ mark. She became the first woman in her thirties to win a Grand Slam singles title since Martina Navratilova won Wimbledon in 1990.
